Let’s make arepas! 🇨🇴
My friend Silvia turned me on to these delicious homemade arepas, Colombian style! I had tried arepas before but never attempted to make them on my own because they looked so difficult.
But look how easy they are to make! 😀
INGREDIENTS
- 2 c of cornmeal
- 2 ½ c water
- 1 tsp salt
METHOD
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
- Form balls with the dough
- flatten on a floured piece of wax paper
- Cook in oiled skillet on medium until done, leaving it slightly crispy on the outside.
Then you just slice them and fill them with your favorite ingredients!
We made our Arepas plantbased! 💚 We filled them with sauteed mushrooms with wine and garlic, guacamole, caramelized onions, and pickled onions and peppers 🌶
SAUTEED MUSHROOMS IN WINE
- Clean mushrooms
- Slice mushrooms
- In a skillet add mushrooms to 1 tbs olive oil
- Add garlic
- Stir until almost cooked
- Drain juice
- Add sliced garlic and stir 1-2 minutes
- Add white wine and cook on med high 2 min more
- Season with garlic salt
EASY GUACAMOLE RECIPE
- Peel 1 ripe avocado 🥑
- smash with fork
- Add fresh lime juice
- Add Lawry’s Seasoning salt
