When you’re away from home for 3-5 days or you’re just on the go and you want to eat healthy, preparation is key. Think of your favorite healthy snacks and stock up on them. Below is a list of my lunch box staples that allow me to snack healthy on the go.
1. Hummus- store bought or homemade this snack endures the elements of travel and can be enjoyed with pita, tortilla, crackers, carrots or pretzels. This is my favorite hummus recipe

2. Fresh fruit- fresh fruit is a must when you’re traveling. Oftentimes we’re forced to eat not so healthy meals on the go and it’s refreshing to have a fresh nutritious snack that’s healthy. Pineapple, banana, grapes, oranges, blueberries and apples are my easy favorites.
3. Carrots-invest the time into peeling and chopping this tasty vegetable snack. They travel well and are full of vitamins and fiber.
4. Yogurt- Pack this away for a tasty, healthy desert food. I like mine with almonds and raisins. Be sure to cover it with a spill proof lid.
5. Nuts- Almonds, Cashews, Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds or peanuts…it doesn’t matter. You’ll be happy you have this protein filled snack especially when you compare your little store bought bag with the hefty inflated prices at the airport.
6. Dried fruit- Pack away your dried fruit of choice – raisins, dates, prunes or apricots. They travel well and are delicious snacks!
7. Oatmeal- It may be quite boring in your cupboard, but when you’re craving a healthy breakfast, instant oatmeal is handy, tasty and healthy.
8. Olives- If you’re a fan of olives, they are a nice complement to hummus, cheese or on their own.
9. Cheese and crackers-Why pay 15$ for the airline’s version of tapas when you can bring your own? Pack away your tasty cheese and favorite crackers in your lunchbox and break them out for a snack after takeoff.
10. Popcorn- It’s a little unorthodox as a travel snack but highly worth the effort. I season my leftover popcorn from the night before with a dash of tumeric which gives it a fun and different flavor. Also, tumeric has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties … so go heavy on the dash
11. Spanish tortilla- Try something exotic! made of eggs, potatoes and onion the Spanish tortilla is one of my favorite snacks to bring on my travels. I feel very European sitting on my jump seat snacking on a Spanish tortilla, feta cheese, medjool dates and spicy olives. The combination is exquisite

12. The Rio triangle, named after my great nephew, is basically just a peanut butter and honey sandwich on a wheat tortilla. So easy to make, this snack is high in protein and is simply delicious!
